Came across this interesting garden sculpture near stoke newington. Would make a fun mini pop up garden project. Watch this great 3D animation to get an idea of what medieval London looked like before the Great Fire of London in 1666 in which the majority of timber framed houses were burnt. This terrible incident, allegedly started by a baker's fire, also helped to eradicate the Plague or "Black Death", which was widespread at the time. This animation is a great example of how the internet has allowed illustrators and designers to collaborate. In your sketchbook or a scrap piece of paper, practice drawing simple to complicated lines, which you should then try to draw the mirror opposite of. This is a good simple starter to get your brain thinking perceptually.

I really like the idea of having a large chalk board in the art room, which can be used by students to try out large scale drawings. Came across this interesting blog post about getting students to cast their arm and paint on tatoo designs. I like the idea of visiting a local tattooist and asking about the types of tatoos people choose and their symbolic meanings. Could involve students doing a bit of independent research and interviewing people for homework. |
