An incredible timelapse animation made using google street images: A fascinating video about the South African animator William Kentridge and his working process. It feels very liberating to start out with a documentary photograph and then constructing a narrative as one works. Kentridge was famous for depicting the apartheid between white and black people in South Africa through the use of animation. Here is a collection of his animations called 'Pain & Sympathy': An interesting technique to animate fixed images so they look like they are moving. Thanks to Marcella, this video could inspire the scene where the doll climbs up the tree in the form of a stop frame animation or just record a live puppet performance and edit together with music: Lotte Reiniger was famous for these type of animations in the 1920s. You can see one of her beautiful animations below: This animation was produced by a sixth former from my previous school and gives some great ideas for making a stop-frame animation using This video, produced by primary school students in Ireland, tells the story of an Tom Crean, an Antartic Explorer, and uses lego pieces and stop frame animation. The students have narrated over the animation and made sets using general art materials. Its a simple idea that is well put together and worth trying out yourselves! You will need to plan it first and write the script.
A great example of how a simple idea of using lego bricks/shapes and a bit of patience (& skill!) leads to a well crafted outcome. Have a go and get out you old lego pieces!
