So far, some great work is being produced by year 9s on their Cold War chess project. Having learnt about caricature and clay bust modelling, the first batch of sculptures are now ready to put in the kiln. This is reference for the year 6 students coming to transition day.
As part of exam week, you will be given a space of 100 minutes to work/complete a school wide art challenge. This year the focus will be on the genre of 'portraiture' and the questions you should consider is: 'How will you capture the personality of your subject?'. The details are explained in the slideshow below. Please take the time to read through the slides and start developing your ideas. Your work will be put on display for the end of term exhibition.
Over the holiday period, we would like you to prepare for next term's project, which is called 'Inside Out' and involves learning how to draw like an architect and designing a 21st Century home. More details can be viewed under the curriculum menu of this blog. Please complete the following homework task in preparation ready to present on your first day back: a) In your sketchbook, draw out the title 'My Favourite World Famous Building' b) Watch the video below about 100 of the most famous buildings in the world and choose one that you would like to investigate further. On the internet, research a number of facts about the building and write a statement in your sketchbook explaining: - Who designed it? - Where is it located? - What was or is it used for? - Describe the way it looks and how it makes you feel? - Why do you think it is considered a famous building? Is there an interesting story behind it? c) Make a full page drawing study of the building in pencil or, if you have the resources, use watercolours or colouring pencils. Try to fill the page. If the building is very complicated, you could draw different close up sections. Came across this intriguing junk sculpture outside the little angel theatre in Islington. Might be a good year 6 or 7 project based on the question: 'If objects were alive, what environmental issues would they protest about?". They could then create figures from recycled objects protesting in the form of a group installation, drawing inspiration from artists such as Yinka Shonibare, Richard Wentworth and Matthew Barney. Please come and see our year 8 sculpture exhibition on Tuesday 31st March at The Podium space next to the Orbit Tower in Stratford. Please see leaflet attached for more info. Objective To respond to the animated collages by the film maker Terry Gilliam to create an A4 collage based on one of the following absurd titles:
Use the images and videos of Gilliam's work to help you come up with an original collage. Tips:
Research LinksCame across these pavement portraits made using mosaic tiles around the southbank.. Might make an interesting portrait project for students around the school premise.Would be good to link in some way to local history. |
